In this 90-minute workshop, I will explain how being sent to boarding school can impact a child's development and their subsequent behaviour as adults. Many patterns of behaviour are learned in boarding school, where the values of achievement and success are often prioritised above all else. Unfortunately, there are also many costs that may impact their intimate relationships and family life. Do they show signs of: Depression, workaholism, burnout, low self-care. Do they struggle to sit down and make themselves busy? Do they struggle to express their feelings? Do they seem emotionally numb at times? Do they struggle with intimacy? Can family life seem overwhelming? Do they often need to retreat? Do they find it hard to trust others? Do they have low-self esteem, yet appear to be outwardly confident. This workshop is for those who wish to have a greater understanding of their partner's way of being. The notion of "Privilege" often prevents ex-boarders from expressing their feelings. They may not recognise that some of their difficulties may stem from their boarding school upbringing themselves. In this workshop, I hope to enable partners to increase their understanding and awareness, which will benefit your relationship.
